World Cup - Bulgaria

The Preliminary competition took place yesterday in Sofia, Bulgaria. B.G.'s own Emily Smith placed 6th in a very competitive field that included the 2 former World Champions.

Emily unfortunately counted a fall on her first pass but came back to score the 3rd highest twisting pass score of the meet. She placed 6th, however due to the two per country rules will not be advancing to the final round.

Congratulations Emily for another top 10 international finish!

History in the making!

Friday, April 17th - one of our senior female tumblers will be making Canadian history by becoming the first female to successfully land a dbl twisting dbl layout in competition!

Jordan Sugrim and Emily Smith are both planning on competing the skill in their finals pass at the Provincials. Jordan is the currently the only female who has ever attempted it in competition, she touched her hands down at our 3rd Ontario Cup and unfortunately did not receive credit. Emily, the most decorated tumbler in Canadian history, will be competing the skill for the very first time.

Other highlights in this flight are Teja Durante and Catherine McNutt who placed 2nd and 3rd respectively at the 2008 Pan Am Championships! Both are planning new passes as well.

It also includes our Youth Women (Jaclyn Sicard, Carolynne Wong, Alison Zareski, Katelyn Verschoor) and our Open Woman (Sydney Brown).

Competition starts at 6:40pm. Please come and show your support for our B.G. athletes as well as watch what has to be considered one of the most exciting provincials championships in Ontario's tumbling history!

National Training Camp

To: all athletes qualified to National Championships
Re: training camp

Hi Everyone,

For the first time in 5 years, Gymnastics Ontario is offering a training camp for National Athletes. Here are a few important details:

Date: May 15-17, 2009
Location: Etobicoke Gymnastics
Clinician: Justen Millerbend - USA National Team Coach
Focus: Nationals preparation and future skill development

Cost:
Hotel, Clinic and Meals No Hotel
Athlete $ 130.00 $100.00
Coach $100.00 $70.00
Manager $ 70.00 $40.00

I realise it is close to home, however I do encourage everyone to take advantage of the hotel option. We will organising group activities to help strengthen Team Ontario's bond and they will be taking place at the hotel.

I strongly urge athletes to attend this camp as Justen is an amazing coach with plenty of great accomplishments in his career. His most recent protege is Kalon Ludvigson (youtube him) who is ranked in the top 5 in the world.

Please RSVP whether or not you will be attending by Wednesday, April 8th. Only currently qualified National Athletes can attend.

Thank you!
