Athletes of the month - January

Tumbling: Brooke Bottos

Brooke is in her 2nd year of Provincial level competition here at the B.G.'s. She is in Provincial C and just recently placed 2nd in the 1st Ontario Cup. On the competition floor, she is fierce and focused; showing a level of maturity and confidence well above that of an average 10 year old. In trainings she puts 110% into all she does whether it be skill training, conditioning or flexibility. Everyday she tries to be a little better and it is clearly paying off for her!

Trampoline: Coleman Ladouceur

Coleman is a National Novice 15+ trampolinist here at B.G.'s. He recently placed 7th at the 1st Ontario Cup and achieved his 1st (of two required) National qualifying scores. He has been competing with B.G.'s for just about 3 years now and seems to really be coming into his own. He has a calm confidence that certainly helps him maintain an edge on the competition floor as well as in the gym, which is often filled with distraction. Coleman, your a rock star!!

Double Mini Tramp: Jordan Sugrim

Jordan is one of our most accomplished tumblers here at B.G.'s. This is Jordan's first season competing DMT and she is proving to be a threat on the national scene. She recently placed 1st at the Ontario Cup in Senior Open, the 2nd highest competition level. Her clean lines, calm demeanor and incredible work ethic are making this new competitive venture look all too simple. With such a promising performance this early in the season, we can only begin to imagine where she is going to finish come June!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

Hi everyone,

Just letting you know that I will be at the club tonight for anyone able to make it. If you can't because the weather in your end is too crazy that is fine! But if you can make it out, there will be a coach there for your child.

I support whatever decision you chose.

Denis

Quinte Bay Invitational

To: Interclub, Provincial D, C and B Families
Re: Quinte Bay Invitational

Quinte Bay Gymnastics Club is hosting it's annual tumbling invitational the weekend of March 6-8. This competition is a "fun" meet that has nothing to do with qualification for provincial Championships. It is simply another opportunity for athletes to gain some very valuable competition experience and maybe even try new skills or a new level! Please confirm with me by Thursday, January 29th as to whether or not your child will be participating. There is no training the weekend of the 6-8 due to the Men's meet being held at the club.

Date: March 6-8 (one day)
Cost: $30.00 per athlete

Exam Week

Dear High School Students!

I realise that this week is exam week and with that comes added stress and pressure. We do still have a competition this weekend though and your attendance at training is still important. If you are feeling stressed or what not, try coming in for an hour. Just come in do your passes and then get out. This may also provide you with a much needed study break.

Just a thought...

Track Suits/Gym Suits

Please be advised that I still have some tracksuits and gym suits sitting in my office. I would love to get them out a.s.a.p! Please make sure to pay the club for your suit and pick it up in the near future.

Also, there have been some minor concerns with the fit of the boys track suit. The sizes are not wrong, they are meant to fit thicker body types. Unfortunately, trampoline and tumbling doesn't really follow that norm. It is a very easy fix. Take it to the Stitch It in the upper level of Mapleview mall and get it taken in. I got both the pants and Jacket done for just over $20.00 and in less the 72 hours. They did a great job on it!

2008 Year in Review

Well another great year has come and gone! Before we attempt to tackle our new ambitions and goals, we thought we should take a quick stroll down memory lane and remember all the great moments this year had to offer!

The pre-competitive program was very successful over the last 12 months. Our athlete's got to compete in 3 invitationals meets and most got medals to reward their great effort in the gym. We finished 2008 with every athlete in the program capable of doing back handsprings! Way go to our little ones!

Our provincial program continued it's uphill climb on the Ontario scene. 8 of our athlete's qualified to Provincial Championships which were held at Seneca College. Most athlete's turned in top 10 finishes including a silver medal by Michael Zeuner! We also had 3 participants in the Eastern Canadian Championships, all of which were in the top 8! We finished the year with amazing performances at the Tour Selection meet. On top of our great competitions, the staff is very excited that all athletes moved up the Difficulty chart in the gym. A true sign of their hard work paying off! Congratulations Provincial Team on being little champions.

The National Team was tremendously successful yet again. They dominated all the qualifiers with so many amazing performances it's difficult to remember them all! We also had 15 qualify to Provincial Championships - 10 of them coming home with medals, including 2 golds! 13 athletes went on to compete at the National Championships in Calgary where 3 of them earned the prestigious National Title -Emily Smith, Meghan Hefford and Carolynne Wong. 5 other athletes earned medals! We concluded the season with a great Tour Selection meet where our athletes once again dominated the rankings!

On the International scene, we were once again very busy! Emily Smith competed in 3 world Cup competitions earning top 6 finishes every time, including a Bronze in the World Cup Final in Russia in September. Teja Durante and Catherine McNutt finished our international season with a bang with a 2-3 finish at the Pan American Championships!

With those results it is safe to say that the National Program met our expectations. Congratulations athletes, you truly are the class of the field in the province, country and world!

2008 also saw some great additions to our coaching staff! David Findlay started working with the Provincial Athletes in the winter months and has continued to do so through this season. We also had Holly Mousseau join us from the Great White North aka. Sault Ste Marie in September. Holly replaced Emily in the Provincial program (who chose to go back to school to finish her degree and we are so proud of her for it), and she is being trained by Chris and I to fulfill a major roll in the national program in the coming years, The fit has been absolutely perfect! Both coaches have been a great addition to the program.

2008 can really only be described in 1 word...

PHENOMENAL!

Now let's top it in 2009!

All the best to all athletes in the new year!

Denis, Chris, Holly, David and Nick
