Athletes of the month - May

Our athletes of the month of May all have 1 thing in common. They all returned home from the 2009 Eastern Canadian Championships with a Gold Medal around their necks and ready for bigger and better things!

Tumbling: Naomi Suzuki

Naomi had a phenomenal season this year which concluded with an Eastern Canadian Title in Provincial B Women's Tumbling! Her personal best technical performance is what gave her the edge in the competition: she showed great speed, execution and of course stuck landings! Oh, did I forget mention she was the youngest and smallest in her category?! Since returning from the meet, she has learned Provincial A passes as well as the ever exciting double back tuck! Congratulations on a great month of May!

Double Mini Trampoline: Ken Robertson

Ken started the month of May off in style with a win in the Provincial A men's dmt competition at the Eastern Canadian Championships. It was his first time competing 2 of his 4 passes and did them extremely well to edge out another B.G. athlete for the title. His preliminary passes also counted towards Gymnastics Ontario's Team Gold! Since the win, he seems to have a new found confidence and determination for being a National Athlete come July. Great Job!

Trampoline: Ian Phillips

After placing 2nd in the Provincial A preliminary competition, Ian knew he needed a great optional to move ahead and take the title. He delivered just that! Completing the most difficult set of the meet with amazing height and execution, Ian scored the highest optional total of the men's meet and ran away with the gold. He also helped Gymnastics Ontario to the Team Gold in that category. Now he has his sights set on making a splash on the National scene! Good Luck Ian! We know you can do it!

Jack of all trades: Josh Haibach

Josh paired up with another Ontario athlete to win the Provincial A syncro trampoline title. If that isn't impressive enough, this was after placing 8th in the men's tumbling category, 2nd in the men's Provincial A DMT category and 6th in the Provincial A TRI category. His scores in both Tramp and DMT counted towards the Team Ontario victory. He was the only athlete to compete in all disciplines and did it without making any mistakes! This streak of hit performances meant Josh was leaving Easterns with 3 Gold's and 1 Silver medal! An impressive feat for an 11 year old! Congratulations!
